Welcome Letter

Dear colleagues,

Thank you to all who joined us in Florence for the 42nd Congress of the European Society of Surgical Oncology and made it a success with a record number of 1200 participants.

2023 marked a brand-new chapter for ESSO. Inspired by our new vision – Cure Cancer Together – released during ESSO41 in Bordeaux, this year we brought together all stakeholders – patients, surgeons, organ-based societies, companies, and decision-makers, to discuss innovative solutions that reinforce the advantage of cancer surgery and concrete actions that reassure them to be delivered to all cancer patients.

For the very first time, ESSO Congress included a cancer policy session, where we had the pleasure of having two Members of Parliament join us for a roundtable discussion on The Need for Surgical Oncology Specialization in Europe.

This has been a hot topic since always. The importance of surgical oncology is recognized at the EU level, but we are still far from making it a specialty across Europe despite the many advocacy efforts that have been made.

We are happy to announce that the sessions of Breast, Colorectal and Interdisciplinary tracks and E-posters are now available on demand.

On behalf of the 42nd Congress of the European Society of Surgical Oncology, we would like to once again thank you for your kind collaboration and time. Also, we hope you enjoyed the sessions, exhibitions, and networking opportunities during this time we spent all together.
